A lipstick is one make-up product that is in every girl’s vanity. There are so many options in the market today; from colour to finish to different forms and everything this is easily accessible. Therefore, even if you don’t want to, you will find at least one lipstick on you that you used only once or twice. Don’t let that money go to waste. We are here to tell you how you can get the most out of this humble product.
Here are the five most awesome ways in which you can use a lipstick, other than what it’s destined for, of course!
Eyeliner
If all you own are neutral eyeshadow palettes and the classic black eye liner, this on this one is for you. You can add a little drama to your eye make-up with a liquid lipstick. Here’s how:
- Liquid lipsticks are preferred over cream as they dry-off matte and are non-transferable. Don’t feel restricted, you can also use a liquid metallic lipstick if you want to up your oomph factor.
- Use a clean eyeliner brush to draw on your eyelids. You can draw a classic winged eyeliner or have fun with it and try a graphic eyeliner.
- Another fun look is with wide colour spectrum, which is provided to you is an ombre eyeliner.
- You can do this with a black eyeliner and a lipstick or with two different coloured lipsticks.
- Chose the combination of colours. Draw across the lid with one colour. With a different brush draw the wing of the liner and blend it thoroughly.
- However, before doing a full eye glam with your lipstick, always do a little swatch test first. Take a little product and put on your eye lid. If it burns or irritates, remove immediately.
Contour
You can reconstruct you face any way you want with contouring. Get a more defined jawline or more prominent cheekbones. If you want to practice contouring before you get yourself a contour kit or you simply don’t own one; try contouring with a cream brown lipstick.
- We say that you use a cream lipstick for contouring as it blends easily without leaving any harsh lines. Whereas the same cannot be said about liquid lipsticks as they dry up fast.
- The art of contouring is all about adding seamless shadows to the key areas of your face. If it is not seamless it is not contouring. That said, you can use a liquid lipstick but only if you are a pro at contouring!
- Be wary of the shade of lipstick you choose. It should not be more than two shades darker than your natural skin tone.
- You can contour your cheekbones, jawline, temples, forehead, nose and even your collar bone with a brown lipstick.
Colour Corrector
At times, even after applying foundation and concealer the dark circles and the blemishes still somehow manage to pop out. The solution is colour correction.
- Everyone owns a red lipstick for sure. That solves most of our problems. Apply some lipstick on to the concerned areas–under eye, near the mouth and the nose, any marks or blemishes.
- Blend it with a damp beauty blender; follow this with a concealer that suits your skin tone and see magic happen!
- Now let’s talk about what shade of red will work best for what skin tone. A medium to full coverage red or orange lipstick will do wonders if you have dark complexion or just have really prominent dark circles. A medium coverage peachy lipstick will work best for medium to light skin tones.
- Chances are that you might not have it, but if you have a green lipstick you can use it to cancel out the red blemishes.
- In the case of colour correction, you can either use a cream or a liquid lipstick. Just remember to blend!
Blush
This one is perhaps the most common alternative use for a lipstick. It is used by professional make-up artists since forever!
- You can use all those red, pink and orange colours you have lying around.
- Again, for blush it is preferable to use a cream lipstick as its blends easily and does not leave behind harsh lines.
- So, take your cream lipstick and swatch it on the back of your hand to warm it up. Now with a brush or a damp beauty blender build the pigment over your cheeks to your satisfaction. You can also apply the product directly to your cheeks, warming it up just makes it easier to blend.
- You can use the bold reds for a dramatic glam, pinks for a subtle flushed look and your peaches and corals for a nice summery flirty blush.
Eyeshadow
One of our favourite lipstick hacks! It is a creative way to have fun with your eyes, especially if all you own are neutral eyeshadow palettes.
- You can glam-up your eyes using a lipstick with minimal effort.
- You can use a lipstick as an eyeshadow! Additionally, you can also use it as a base for your eyeshadow for maximum pigment.
- For a soft dewy look apply a little shimmery brown eye shadow on the inner and outer corners of you eye. Now apply some brown cream lipstick right in the middle and blend! You can also use contrasting colours for a more dramatic look.
- Try this for a fun colour-pop! Use a neutral eyeshadow all over your eyelid and do a classic black or brown winged liner. Take some orange lipstick (or any other colour that you might find fun) onto an eyeshadow brush and sweep it across your lower lash line. Finish the look by applying kohl to your waterline and blending it with the colour.
- You can use either, a liquid or a cream lipstick as eyeshadow. There is no preference here, just don’t forget to blend.
